Graceful Underwater Photography by Howard Schatz

For the past 15 years, photographer Howard Schatz has been celebrating the beauty of movement and form with his breathtaking underwater photography. After enlisting the help of dancers, models and performers, he asked them to be submerged in a swimming pool where he took pictures of them as they posed for his camera. (Of course, this wasn't an ordinary pool but a state-of-the-art, custom-built pool fitted with studio lights and covered with a giant dome to regulate temperature.) What follows is a mesmerizing set called H2O that ultimately became a book.

As it says on his website: "With H2O, Schatz takes the magic of weightlessness and the beauty of dance to new heights. Whether in single portraits or as part of a larger, spectacular ballet, his dancers are as utterly elegant as they are phantasmagorical. They appear before the camera as though borrowed from a dream."
