The bioluminescence of deep sea organisms is a magical thing to behold. Czech designer Kateřina Smolíková captures this wonder of nature beautifully in her breathtaking glass chandelier design, lit by energy-efficient LEDs.

According to Design East, the chandelier is meant as an orientational light, for strategic soft lighting of dark places. One can imagine a whole series of these ephemeral chandeliers hanging down to create a dreamlike, oceanic atmosphere.
Smolíková is a student at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague, focusing on glass design. Employing glass blowing, melting and casting in her work, her "Skyphos 1" light piece recently won a student design award.
