The Simple Life
If you go down to the woods today, you’re sure of a big surprise.
Photographer Gemma Booth shoots Grace Small in the woods, building fires better than a girl scout, hanging up her washing and getting changed a lot, because you never know who you’re going to meet between the trees.
Gemma started working with i-D in 1997 as a design assistant, “Terry Jones saw potential in me and asked me to photograph a club night in my home town of Manchester, for the club pages of the magazine. The rest as they say is history.” Spending the last twelve years as a professional photographer, Gemma got back in touch with i-D with this winter woodsy story, which she breaks down to this: “This is a simple story of a girl in the woods. She is alone and at one with herself and nature, content in her own skin, and getting away from it all. It’s a very British story shot on a very wet day in Autumn. I like the bright technical rainwear in the dark woods and the feeling of solitude and a simple life.”
