Yacht Charter Description
Superyacht KOKOMO is a Dubois designed Alloy Yachts built 58 metre fly bridge sailing sloop which was launched in New Zealand in 2010. One of the finest sailing yachts in the world, KOKOMO III is available for luxury yacht charters and she can accommodate up to 10 guests in 3 double and 2 twin staterooms.Yacht KOKOMO is a successful evolution by the yacht's owner, designer and builder. She is the third superyacht from Alloy Yachts built for the same experienced yacht owner and she is the largest. Many ideas have developed and evolved from the first two Kokomo yachts, making her a beautiful performance oriented superyacht for world class sailing, entertaining, enjoyment and comfort. The brief for Dubois Naval Architects and for Alloy Yachts was ‘to create a sailing yacht that would break new ground in performance, comfort and style’. This has certainly been achieved with the Kokomo III yacht.
An elegant sailing yacht in every way, KOKOMO has a distinctively modern aspect with an array of innovations and cutting edge technology. She has a contemporary and clean exterior design with her stark white superstructure, glossy jet black hull and bright silver transom graphics. Carbon fibre furniture and specific structural elements contrasts in a complementary manner with the teak.
Sailing yacht Kokomo has several innovative firsts, including a submarine anchoring system, a 75 metre tall mast, a huge sail area, risable ballast keel - which raised to 5 m for increased access and lowers to 8m for optimal sailing performance and sea keeping stability and comfort.
From Alloy Yachts: "With the owner’s desire of increased performance under sail, the sail area has increased significantly over the last Kokomo. As a result, all the winches, sheets and structures to which these are attached have been scaled up to match. The Alloy Yachts-designed winches are considerably larger in terms of size and pulling power, and demonstrate a step forward in the performance of the patented Alloy Yachts winch technology.
From a structural point of view, the raise/lower ballasted keel is a significant change for this Dubois design. The ‘tower’ comes up through the centre of the yacht, allowing the whole bulb of the keel to be raised and lowered, and changing the depth drawn from under 5m to over 8m. The construction process involved lowering the keel shaft down through the tower, then the bulb was attached underneath."
Her interior is described by Tony Dixon of Redman Whiteley Dixon Limited as “rich and elegant with style of the highest quality to create the epitome of luxurious surroundings onboard a sailing yacht in a practical way”. Dixon says: “The new Kokomo is a fabulous coordination from both the design and build teams who have learnt from and built on the knowledge of the last Kokomo to create a very refined new yacht.”
Dixon says the styling of superyacht KOKOMO III is modern, but “not hard edge contemporary”. New custom details feature among improved cabin layouts possible due to the extra length available on Kokomo III and attention has been paid to stowage and practical issues. “Very dark, distinctive Wenge and light forest teak timbers accentuate chocolate-brown leather tops and chunky nickel hardware. Stronger features are created, with the help of the Alloy Yachts craftsmen, by wrap-round corner veneers on cabinets everywhere and the contrasting leather stitch-work.”
S/Y Kokomo has five cabins. The owners' suite is spacious and it spans the full beam at the aft of the yacht. It has a king size bed, on the centreline, with a leather top desk to starboard and a leather top chest of drawers on the port side. The ensuite bathroom is situated up a couple of steps and behind the aft bulkhead.
Two identical double cabins are situated side by side and each have a queen size bed with a side settee that can be converted to an additional single bed. There are also a further two mirror-image cabins with twin single berths, each with an additional Pullman berth and ensuite bathroom. Silk oatmeal carpets are soft and luxurious underfoot in the bedrooms. The bathrooms feature white marble and green glass finishes, with wenge wood detailing.
